Cause of Establishment:
The temple was constructed for the special welfare of Digamber Jain devotees so that they could have their rituals, recitation's pooja and concentrations. They could recite their mantras here for their spiritual elevation.

       
Brief of the Diety:

Mythologically this is believed that Shri Adinath is followed by an unending series of Teerthankars. Crores of years ago Shri Adinath born to Mother Maru Devi and father Nangerai. He spent 83 lacks years in Grahasthashram (homely domestic life). Thereafter i100 years he performed strict penance. As a result, he attained Kewalya (the only oneness or the perfect isolation) Gyan. Then he attained Arihant Pad for thousands and thousands of years and preached his divine message to all Jeevas (souls).

The temple belongs to Digamber Jain sect of the Jainism but all Hindus and even other sects of Jainism visit the temple.

Important Architectural Characteristics:

The statues of Lord Adinath and Lord Chandraprabhu are extremely beautiful from the sculpture point of view. The gates of the temple are rather small and to enter the shrine one has to sit and bend his head to find an entry. The statues are in the cave. These gates are the great specimen of Architecture.

Sand stone and lime mortar.

Total Construction Time: Four years from Samvat 1742 to 1746.

Unique features of the temple:

In this temple, there are many underground shrines which are jutted with gems. On these Chaitlayas (shrines) the idols are installed. These idols are protected by Gods and they are venerable. They can be opened to a few for a very limited time in many years. Some great ascetic or muni alone can take the visitors to these Chaityas for the darshan of Arihantas. Recently on 24th March 2002 Muni Shri Sudha Sagarji Maharaj opened the gates of the underground Chaityas and made convenient for 15 to 20 lacs faithful visitors to have a darshan of the gemmed statues for fifteen days.

Festivals & Fairs in Temple (Main Events):

Every year Adinath Jayanti is celebrated on the 9th day of dark half of Chaitra. Nearly after five years, arrangements are made for darshan of the underground Chaityas.

Others: The temple is constructed in a square shape. In the sanctum sanctorum, the idol of Bhagwan Adinath of red stone is enshrined. There are verandahs and halls in the temple. The idol of Bhagwan Adinath is in state of Padmasan (lotus like posture of yoga).

Everyday Abhishek, Pooja and Aarti are performed according to the Jain Amnay tradition.

Issues requiring global attention for conservation, protection and improvement of the temple:

At the back of the temple, the Roopali river flows. On the North East Bank, there is possibility for creation of green park. The river can also be beautified and the place can be declared as one of Tourist attraction. For this, the road ways of Kota and Jhalawar are also be developed.
