Cause of Establishment:

At the time when foundation was being prepared, from a spot which beling to Ganga Ram Luhar and Ratan, two idols were discovered. They were given into the custody of Maharaj Jalim Singhji of Jhalawar. Afterwards in the year 1806 A.D. Maharaja Jalim Singhji got this temple constructed on the Bank of Gaumati Sagar and in this temple, idols were enshrined. The Maharaja was by nature highly religious. His forefathers had been the followers of Pusthimarg. Therefore, when the new kingdom was established Lord Dwarkadishji and his consort Navneet Priya ji were honoured as their clan deities. Thus in the same vast temple, which has four battlements on the four sides the idols were enshrined and thus the temple stands on the bank of the lake Gaumati Sagar.

This temple has been constructed after the style of Dwarkadhish temples at Kankarauli and Rajsamand. At the back of the temple, there is a big lake. The campus is very old. The temple belongs to the Pushtimargiya Sampradaya of Shri Ballabhacharya ji. This temple is visited by all Hindus and Vaishnavs but the mode of worship is Pustimargiya. The temple has high gates, open verandahs, a nakkarakhana nearby, a big chowk, the Jagmohan (prayer hall) and the sanctum sanctorum attached to which is the idol of Shri Navneet Priya ji.

At the back of the temple, there is a big lake. The campus is very old. In front, there is lush green forestry. The the sacred temple of Dwarkadhishji is one of the most beautiful and worth seeing temples of Jhalrapatan.

The temple is constructed in building stone and lime mortar.

Since the temple belongs to the Pushtimargiya Vaishnavas, all traditional functions of the pushtimargiya sect are performed and countless vaishnavas come for the darshan of Shri Dwarkadhish ji and Navneet Priya ji.

This pustimargiya temple is maintained strictly in the Pushtimargiya traditions. Astayam Poojas such as Mangla, Bal, Gwal, Shringar, Rajbhog, Utthapan, Shayan etc. are performed punctually. Specially mentionable is the gwal form in which the deity is attired like a cowherd and looks most attractive. This is the peculiar kind of glimpse or view for which hundreds of viewers assemble.

All Pushtimargiya festivals are observed here.Specially mentionable are Sanvatsary (Hindu new year day) Rathyatra, Sawan Jhoola, Janmasthami, Van Mahotsav, Goverdhan Pooja and Annakoota, Holi, Phooldol, Phag etc. On Sharad Poornima, Kheer is distributed as Prasadam.

Evening Time:

Much has been said above, regarding the mode of worship. The Pooja ceremony is performed very punctually, and with all care. Bhog is offered to the deity in the morning and in the evening. Visitors are allowed to view the deity from the chowk.

Prayers are sung in the pushtimargiya tradition. Keertan and singing of Bhajans is an usual feature.

The temples of Pushtimargiya Sampradaya give a special identity to the temple. Jhalrapatan emerges as a seat of temples on the national scene. This old temple now requires repair time to time. The campus, the ceiling and the rooms should be given immediate attention. The garden in front should be well maintained and made more beautiful. The whole place can be developed into a charming sight seeing place.
