Cause of Establishment:

Prince Raj Kumar Pal Solanki of Gujrat brought this Shivlinga from the Saurashtra area of Gujrat because Somnath Temple and Somnath Mahadev were the targets of attack of Mohd. Gajnavi, to save the Shivling from this devastation and vandalism, the king brought it to Pali and handed it over for safety to a Paliwal Brahmin.

Brief of the Diety:

The whole Shiva family viz., Lord Shiva in the Linga from, Paarvati, Ganeshji and Nandi recive worship everyday. All these idols, as the people belive, were brought from the Somnath temple of Gujrat, Saurashtra for their safe installation. This temple is one of the most famous  temples of Pali.

The temple belongs to Shiva Sect, but for that purpose, it is venrated by all Hindus.

Important Architectural Characteristics:

The very sight of the architecture will reveal that the temple is an ancient one. It is about 1000 years old because it was built was prevalent at that time has been used.The meticulously chiseled circular patterns on the ceiling and pyramid shaped exquisitely carved Shikhar and pinnacle of the temple are works of more sculpture.

Material of Construction:

Sandstone of Chhitar has been used predominantly in the construction of the temple.

Religious aspects of temple:

This temple is the principal temple of Pali and in this town the worship of Lord Shiva is almost universal, people believe that their wishes are fulfilled by the deity. Abhisheka, Rudrabhisheka, singing of hymns in the praise of Lord Shiva are the usual features of this temple.

Festivals & Fairs in Temple (Main Events):

Amongst the principal festivals are Shivratri in the month of Phalgun, all Mondays of the month of Shravan, Nrasingh Chaturdashi and all other Hindu festivals are celebrated with joy and enthusiasm.

Custom & Traditions of Temple:

This is primarily a Shiva temple casts and communities, the men and women and children worship Lord Shiva. In all addition, Lord Surya, Shanidev, Santoshi Mata and Amba Mata are also worshipped here. Their idols are also in stalled.

Issues requiring global attention for conservation, protection and improvement of the temple:

Since the temple is very old and the lingam was brought from Saurshtra, the temple has a special sanctity.In this temple many mythological figures have also been engraved. Because of the passage of time, these ancient sculpture and heritage things are undergoing erosion. They must be protected with the help of chemicals. The statuettes which are badly eroded should be brought back with repair in their natural shape. People feel that the whole temples original and architectural elegance should be restored.
