Cause of Establishment:

During the times of emperor Aurangzeb , Hindu temples and idol were devastated on a massive scale no temple was secure. Initially enshrined at the temple of Shri Nath Ji on Goverdhan Mountain was shifted for security and safety. Thus from Jaitpura, goverdhan, (Braj) it was brought to Nathdwara and established in the present temple.

The Ashtayam puja of the deity is performed meticulously, Rajbhoga, Shringar, Shyan etc, are the fixed timely poojas by which the deity is served as a living being and , therefore, all what is required for a living human being is provided to the deity also.

Unique features of the temple:

Shri Nathdwara is a Pradhan Peetha (Principal seat) of pusthimarg school which was propounded by Shri Ballabhacharyaji. All the religious ceremonies are performed here by the Brijwasis who came to this place from Jatipura from where the deity was brought here.

Prayers to Lord Krishna are sung alogwith Bhajans and padas by the Kirtanias (Bhajan Singers). From season to season, festival to festival and day to day these Bhajans and padas mainly composed by Surdas.Parmanand das and other poets known as Asthachhap poets are sung. The mantra specially chanted is 'Shri Krishnam Sharnam Mamah '

Issues requiring global attention for conservation, protection and improvement of the temple:

The sanctum sanctorum houses, the deity. It’s beautifully decorated, garbhagriha in front of which is a sabhamandap (Payer Hall) where visitors assembly for the darshan of the surrounding buildings give this haveli temple a majestic look. Entire town of Nathdwara is full of Dharmshalas. Shrinath Ji is the real Lord of this town. This town gives a perfect impression of Braj culture, although it is hundreds of miles away from Braj.
