Cause of Establishment:  
The temple was built in 1901 by the queen mother of the then Maharaja Sawai Madho Singhji of Jaipur. Popular belief tells us that the queen mother was a great devotee of Lord Shiva and Ambika and so great was her devotion for them that she built this temple of Ekadash Rudraji and Ambikaji here at this most sacred place of Uttarkashi.

       
Brief of the Diety:

The temple enshrines eleven Shivlingas of stone. In addition to them, there is an eight metalled alloy statue of Shri Ambikaji. Near the eleven Lingas, there are small statues of Nandi, Tiger, Ganeshji and Parvatiji. There is a sacred sanctum sanctorum of Ekadash Rudras and a separate one for Shri Ambikaji.

Religious sect to which the temple belongs:

This temple is worshiped by all Hindus. All people going to Badri Nath, Kedar Nathji do visit this holy temple also.

The temple is built with ordinary building stone but the temple is built into two parts. At the right afterwards the first entrance gate, there are eleven Shivalingas. Around them is an open circumambulatory path. Further, there is a verandah beyond which there is a sanctum sanctorum which enshrines the idol of Abmika Mata. The temple may not have an architectural importance, but this has a great importance as pilgrims attach th faith to this holy place.

The temple is built with lime stone on the pinnacle of the temple there is a staff and flag made of brass.

Religious aspects of temple:

The king got this temple built for the sentiments of the faithful ones to visit this sacred place as pilgrims. In Uttarkashi everyday hundreds of people come to this temple for a darshan. This temple is situated at the Hanuman Chowk of Uttarkashi which is almost its center, stone Lingas of eleven Rudras (forms of Lord Shiva) are present here while in the temple attached there is idol of Ambika Mata, the embodiment of power and peace.

Issues requiring global attention for conservation, protection and improvement of the temple:

This temple is one of the most important temples of Uttarkashi and people attach a great faith to this temple. Recently, the government has sanctioned a lodging house for the pilgrims.
