Cause of Establishment:
According to the prevalent belief, hundreds of years ago at Kadamba Khandi near Kaman in Braj, a Naga sage Chatur Chintamani was practicing ascetisam. He was wholly dedicated to Lord Krishna. The lord was pleased with the sage and he gave him his own idol. Chatur Chintamani was going to Jaipur with that idol but on his way at Bharatpur the idol would not go further. This made Chintamani think that the Lord wanted to have his shrine there. Following this, the idol was installed at a shrine in the fort of Bharatpur and the king constructed a temple there.

Brief of the Diety:

As it has been mentioned above that his idol of Lord Krishna was received by a Naga Sadhu at Kadamba Khandi, hence popular belief holds it that the status was a self borne one. Some others believe that it was Lord Krishna’s own creation. The black stone idol of Lord Krishna is 4 ft. high and it holds a flute to its lips. Thus the statue is that of Lord Krishna playing with a flute.
